DN560 PN25 SRTP Composite Pipeline for Mongolia Long-Distance Deep-Buried Water Project
Project Location: Mongolia / Central Asia Long-Distance Water Infrastructure
Products Applied: DN560mm PN25 (2.5 MPa) SN12.5 Steel Wire Mesh Reinforced PE Composite Pipe (SRTP / SRCP)
A 16-kilometer deep-buried (7m cover depth) water conveyance trunkline engineered by DEF PIPELINE across the Mongolian Gobi desert, utilizing DN560mm PN25 SN12.5 SRTP composite pipes to endure extreme -40°C freeze-thaw cycles and heavy vehicle loads.
Project Background: Extreme Continental Climate & Deep-Buried Challenges
Located in Central Asia, Mongolia features a severe continental climate marked by long, bitter winters where temperatures plunge to -40°C, and short, arid summers. Groundwater and water resources are critically uneven across the territory. To secure reliable industrial and domestic water supplies, this strategic municipal transmission project required laying a 16-kilometer deep-buried primary pipeline traversing hostile terrain including the Gobi Desert, arid scrublands, marshy swamplands, and highly aggressive saline-alkali corridors.
Such extreme geography placed extraordinary engineering challenges on pipe structural resilience, soil pressure capacity, and freeze-thaw endurance:
- Sub-Zero Arctic Cold (-40°C): The piping material must maintain molecular ductility without low-temperature embrittlement during deep winter freezing and seasonal frost heave.
- Severe Soil Cover & Heavy Vehicle Loading: Installed at an extraordinary burial depth of up to 7 meters beneath shifting sand dunes, requiring high ring stiffness to prevent ovalization and collapse under heavy mining vehicles.
- High Hydraulic Working Pressure: Stable conveyance across rolling desert gradients demanding continuous PN25 (2.5 MPa) working pressure.
- Corrosive Ground Salts & Soil Subsidence: Total resistance to underground sulfate/chloride attack, paired with high tensile strength (≥20 MPa) to absorb ground settlement.
DEF PIPELINE Heavy-Duty SRTP Engineering Solution
Henan DEF Pipeline Technology Co., Ltd. supplied our high-performance DN560mm PN25 Steel Wire Mesh Reinforced Polyethylene Composite Pipe (SRTP / SRCP), perfectly matching the Mongolian engineering parameters:
-40°C to 60°C Wide Thermal Stability
Constructed with cold-resistant PE polymer compounded with anti-aging carbon black. The pipe maintains exceptional impact resistance and fracture toughness down to -40°C, fully absorbing thermal contraction stresses and ground frost heave forces without brittle wall crack propagation.
SN12.5 Ring Stiffness for 7m Deep Burial
The high-strength continuous helically wound steel wire core provides superior ring stiffness exceeding SN12.5. This structural skeleton safely supports up to 7 meters of heavy overburden soil and dynamic surface transport traffic without requiring expensive concrete trench encasement.
Continuous PN25 High Pressure Integrity
Designed for continuous 2.5 MPa operation with high hydrostatic safety margins. The composite structure combines the chemical corrosion resistance of plastic with the high mechanical pressure-bearing capacity of steel, preventing pressure surge ruptures along the 16km route.
ASTM D1693 Tested Crack Resistance
Demonstrates outstanding Environmental Stress Cracking Resistance (ESCR ≥1000 hours per ASTM D1693). The smooth internal surface (C=150) drastically reduces friction head loss, cutting pumping station energy consumption across the long transmission corridor.
Project Outcomes & Operational Verification
“Following commissioning, the 16-kilometer Mongolian water transmission pipeline has operated with complete stability and zero leakage, meeting its full design delivery capacity. The system has successfully endured two full annual winter-summer cycles, including extreme -40°C freezing conditions and dynamic desert sand shifts, with zero reported wall distress or joint defects. Long-term operating data indicates that maintenance overheads are over 60% lower than traditional metallic lines. DEF Pipeline’s SRTP solution has proven to be the ultimate benchmark for extreme-environment long-distance water conveyance.”
